Local coffee shop brews unique experiences for Greer residents

Typical 21-year-olds are still trying to figure out what they want to do with their lives. Andrew Carter was not your typical 21-year-old. While his peers were taking classes or working odd jobs, he was busy signing a lease on a commercial property in downtown Greer.

Flashforward two years later and Andrew, who is now 23, is just five months away from celebrating the two-year anniversary of his passion project, Barista Alley.

Located in a 1,750-square-foot space at 125 East Poinsett Street in downtown Greer, Barista Alley has become synonymous with fresh, made-from-scratch, local flavors. From their sweet smoothies to their deliciously handcrafted coffee, Barista Alley only uses natural flavors in their creations. And everything is made in-house.

“People come back to us because of the care we put into our products,” explained Andrew. “It’s a higher quality product than you would get elsewhere.”

What started as an itch to open a restaurant quickly evolved into the realization of a welcoming, artsy coffee shop that puts quality and experience above everything else.

“I love the atmosphere we’ve created here and enjoy getting to meet the people who come in,” said Andrew. “And you can tell our employees feel the same way. They are very passionate about creating quality coffee and sharing that unique experience with our customers.”

Barista Alley has quickly become a favorite spot for locals and visitors alike. In addition to offering patrons high-quality refreshments and a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere, Barista Alley also serves as host to live performances from local performers.

“During the fall we normally have live music on Fridays or every other Friday,” explained Andrew.

When Andrew isn’t busy running a successful business, he enjoys spending his days on the golf course, primitive camping in the mountains or relaxing with his wife, Rebecca and their Goldendoodle, Milo around their home in O’Neal Village.

“We love it here. We have such a great community, and come football season, we’ll all get together in the common area and put up a projector to watch games,” said Andrew. “I spent a lot of time at our pool during the summer — it’s amazing.”

In addition to the strong community within the neighborhood — and the fact that his brother lives right next door — Andrew was drawn to a few other key characteristics of O’Neal Village.

“The homes here are built with a lot of quality. It’s a very safe neighborhood and there’s a lot of growth potential here. There’s already a church and a daycare center and plenty of commercial space for restaurants or shops to come in.”

Who knows? Maybe one day we’ll see a Barista Alley 2.0 pop up in O’Neal Village. But for now, Andrew has one goal in mind.

“Honestly my goal is just to continue to serve the best quality products with the best customer service and continue to work hard to hit our future goals.”

If the first two years of Barista Alley are any indication, we have a feeling that the sky is the limit for this young entrepreneur and O’Neal Village resident.
