The Taylors Mill is a grass-roots redevelopment effort of the former Southern Bleachery and Piedmont Print Works complex located right off Main Street in Taylors, South Carolina. The Mill is a grass-roots mill revitalization project in the region that has a huge mix of retail businesses such as breweries, restaurants, coffee shops, event venues, a museum and endless artists on display.
The beginnings of the structure were completed in 1924 and operated until 1965 as the Bleachery. It sat largely unused until the mid-2000s when efforts began to create a space for small businesses. Caleb Lewis, a fourth-generation Taylors businessman, is the current owner of the Mill.
Alex Reynolds began working with the Mill in 2012. In 2015, Reynolds joined Lewis and his team as communications director, where he continues to serve today.
Reynolds most enjoys interacting with Mill tenants and visitors: “The people are what keep me at Taylors Mill,” said Reynolds. “I love meeting and working with the various tenants and people who have had a connection at the Mill through its life as the Bleachery or over the course of the revitalization effort. I love seeing what the people who call the Mill home are making and creating.”
Taylors Mill has a great relationship with the surrounding communities and is only fifteen minutes from O’Neal Village. “We also work very closely with the Greenville County Planning staff on many projects, and love being a team player in our community,” remarked Reynolds.
This relationship is further elevated through the many events that Taylors Mill tenants host. Southern Bleachery is the exclusive event vendor at the Taylors Mill, and they host both private and public events. 13 Stripes Brewery also hosts a variety of events and happenings for the enjoyment of their patrons. Most events are promoted on the Mill’s social media channels and through tenants’ channels and websites.
“We are working to create more retail space and provide more opportunities for creative tenants and businesses to make the Mill a one-stop destination,” said Reynolds. Latest additions include Crossfit Taylors and Anthem Barber Co.
“Taylors Mill provides a great spot to spend a day that is a bit different from the usual,” recommended Reynolds. “Come explore and see what we have to offer!”
